Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) and the Robbins Family Foundation are proud to announce today that 13 distinguished MSK nurses and one nursing team were recognized with the 2022 Robbins Family Award for Nursing Excellence. During National Nurses Week (May 6 – 12), MSK recognizes outstanding nurses for exemplary service.

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) today announced the establishment of The Starr Foundation Program for Discovery Science, a pioneering new initiative made possible by a generous $50 million gift from The Starr Foundation. The program will support the visionary work of scientists at the Sloan Kettering Institute (SKI), the research arm of MSK, by funding foundational laboratory research that will drive the next generation of cancer breakthroughs and ultimately improve the lives of people facing cancer around the world.

New Yorkers got together this weekend at Wollamn Rink in Central Park to beat rare cancer with Cycle for Survival. Teams of riders led by Equinox instructors participated in the stationary bike event to raise money and bring awareness to the cause. Every dollar donated goes to the research and clinical trials at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

For MSK patient Scott Rosato, preparedness is innate. He is Suffolk County corrections officer and also a lover of the great outdoors, but it’s his vigilance that helps keep him healthy. He’s had close to 20 surgeries now for melanoma, and the battle scars are a reminder of how proactive he’s been. MSK’s Ashfaq Marghoob is quoted.

To celebrate National Nurses Week, Today Show anchor, Hoda Kotb, interviewed MSK Kids nurse Cassie DeMatteis and one of our MSK Kids patients, Rocco DiMaggio, and his family. Rocco first met Cassie when he was treated for Stage 4 neuroblastoma at MSK Kids in 2020, and Cassie quickly became Rocco’s favorite nurse. The Today Show interviewed Rocco’s family about their extraordinary relationship with Cassie and Hoda even surprised little Rocco with a reunion with Cassie, who the DiMaggio’s affectionately call Rocco’s “girlfriend”.
